Bend your elbow and touch the point of it. Now move about one inch toward your shoulder (along the back of your elbow). To either sides of where you are touching, you will feel a little bump. Between the bumps, there is a notch or a groove depending on how muscled you are. The Ulnar nerve runs in that notch. when you hit the "funny bone" you cause pressure on that nerve that causes pain. Interesting Ehh???

Yes! Except it's not really pain so much as just a weird feeling, and that's why it's called the 'funny bone'.

Your funny bone isn't actually a bone at all. Running down the inside part of your elbow is a nerve called the ulnar nerve. The ulnar nerve controls feeling in your fourth and fifth fingers. It's also one of the nerves that controls the movement of your wrist. You get that funny feeling when the ulnar nerve is bumped against the humerus, the long bone that starts at your elbow and goes up to your shoulder (another reason it's referred to as the 'funny' bone).

The funny bone is a highly sensitive area at the back of the elbow where the ulnar nerve passes close to the surface of the skin in a groove between end prominences of the humerus (the upper arm bone) and the ulna (the large forearm bone). A blow to the area causes the nerve to compress against bone, producing a characteristic tingling in the forearm and the last two fingers.
