Lke the others said you could attach it to a file however this will take up to 5 minutes, a faster route; you could just paste the picture into the email, if you're not looking to actually download the picture this is the way to go however you can have all the same options by right clicking the picture when you view it in your email:)

If you use Outlook Express, version 5 or 6, there are several ways. I can't speak for any other program, though it may be similar.

If the photo's file icon is right in front of you, right-click on it. In the menu that opens, highlight Send To until the next menu pops open. Click Mail Recipient. You might see a small box pop up which asks if you want to resize the image for faster transfer and easier viewing. That's a matter of preference. Once you make a choice, an Outlook Express window will open with the photo already listed as an attachment. Fill in the recipient's address. The body of the message may say, "The message is ready to be sent with the following file..." You can delete that message if you want -- otherwise it will simply be part of your message to the recipient. You can also change the pre-filled-in Subject line if you want. It will just be "Emailing: (the name of the photo)." That's it... hit the Send button.

Another method: open a new e-mail (with the Create button or by double-clicking on the recipient's name in your address book) and use the attach button (the paper clip, in O.E.). Browse around until you find the file you're looking for, then hit the Attach button and it will appear in the e-mail form.

Another one I haven't seen mentioned: While in the body of your message, and where you want to insert a picture, look up at the bar where you have the Bold, Italic, font size and other icons... look all the way over to the right (at least on mine). There's an icon that looks like a photo of a mountain and the sun. If you put your cursor over it, you'll see the words "Insert Picture." Click on that, and you can browser til you find the photo you want, then click Open. When that box goes away, click OK in the previous box, and the picture will appear in your message! Unlike an "attached" message, the recipient will see it where you want them to see it -- within the text. Play around a little bit and you'll get the hang of where it shows up, related to the cursor position.

It's a lot harder to explain all these steps than it is to do them, believe me. :-) Once you've done several, you'll get really quick and comfortable with it.

The steps are a little different if you use an online e-mail service like Hotmail. I can explain that, if you like, but will stop for now, since it's already long and I need to get to bed! Good luck.

Click on a small icon at the top of the page... Once the picture is printed put it in an envelope with a pretty little stamp and an address of the person you want to send it to on the front and put it in a large red teleportation device found on most high streets. Hundreds of tiny 3 armed little ninjas then break it into hundreds of thousands of pieces give it to the comunicationalistic fairies who fly it to the nearest "teleportation comunicationalistics re-putting together manifestational mail plant" to your home where hundreds of more ninjas stick the thousands of pieces back together again. Your piece of information is then either damaged, lost or stolen and you recieve no compensation, comunication, information and any other word ending in "tion" because between the fairies, ninjas and "reputting together plants" no on has a bloody clue who you are, who they are, where any of the parties listed above are or indeed what a "letter" is in the first place. Just jump in your car and go give it to them.

You can use the 'attach file' feature as mentioned above, or you can simply right click on the saved picture, select 'copy' and then paste it into the e-mail.
