Depends what you mean - oldest town or oldest town still existing :)? The oldest gold in Europe was found in what is believed to be the oldest civilised settlement in Europe - its in Varna, Bulgaria, and scientists date it 4600-3600 years BC. If, however, we are talking about a more sophisticated level - then it is Perperikon.
The ancient Thracian city and religious centre of Perperikon was discovered comparatively recently near Kardzhali in Bulgaria and is by far the oldest European civilisation:

Perperikon dates 3500 years back.
If we are talking about a town still existing - I really don't know. Could be Athens. It is hard to say, as a number of present days European cities and towns actually started as small settlements, so at which moment of time can they be considered cities and is this the moment we are looking at? An interesting example is Plovdiv, again in Bulgaria. It was known in antiquity as the city founded by Philip - the father of Alexander the Great. But archaeological evidence says it was already there at the time as a proto-Thracian town. So, it actually dates some 3000 years back.
Interesting question. There might be some other/older European cities out there :)

I thought it was Rome (2,800 years old). read that Athens was a leading city at 500 BC so at least 2500 years old
also found on Wikipedia that the bones of first Europeans are found in Dmanisi, Georgia, dated 2,000,000 BC. The earliest appearance of anatomically modern people in Europe has been dated to 35,000 BC. Evidence of permanent settlement dates from the 7th millennium BC in Bulgaria, Romania and Greece. Couldnt find a name of the first town. good luck!
