my girl friend hooked the jumper cables up backwards. I got a new batterie

it is called parasitic drain. remove neg batt cable with ign off. install meter to test amps in series bt neg cable and neg batt terminal. observe reading. anything over .2a (200ma) is excessive. begin pulling fuses until current draw drops below 200ma, this is the ckt that is causing problems. begin tracing.

Probably your alternator. If you perform the drain test...you do not need a meter. You can use a light bulb or test light if the drain is strong enough. When the light goes out, you've found your drain. Clamp one side of the light to the battery post you have pulled the cable off of and the other side to the disconnected cable.

If your girlfriend connected the cables incorrectly, you probably caused a wire to fry, exposing the sheathing and making a wire possible to ground out. This will ground your battery, causing it to drain. You will probably have to do a diagnostic check on it now.

alternator may be bad or the solanoid or something was fried. never let a women touch your truck
