Addition of new fish results in ammonia spike due to the bacteria unable to handle the new load of fish excreta.. The beneficial bacteria takes time to multiply to handle the new load. The new fish are always stressed due to transport to the shop and then to you. Then further by water quality and this probably finished them off. Always closely inspect fish in the shop before buying. A single sickly fish in a tank signals you not to buy from that lot!

They could of been sick and the stress of moving them could of killed them. Your water may not of been safe, the ammonia or nitrite could of been too high or the ph could of been too different. Even if your water was safe before they went in your bio load may not of been able to cope with all the new fish. Koi are very messy and grow very big too (around 3 feet) so before you get new ones think about it, do you really have enough room. Koi need 250 gallons each. That is also the reason why you should ALWAYS quarantine any new fish before you introduce them to your current fish.
