forgiveness, it's really hard to find a human being that will actually "turn the other cheek"...

I believe that humility is probably the virtue that acts as the dynamic behind all other virtues I can think of. For instance, in order to forgive someone, one must be able to forgive him/herself. And to do that, one must be humble enough to admit regularly and consistently that one has limits, human limits that create opportunities for mistakes in life. I must be able to permit myself to have the capacity to make mistakes, to hurt my wife or my children by ignoring them when they need their father and husband and friend. I cannot get around the fact that I have limits as a human being, and the nature of these limits make it hard to be humble because I am so frightened by what I don't know or what I believe I cannot change. Human beings fight this battle intellectually and spiritually every day of our lives, every moment of our existence. But finally, there comes a moment, and it is usually an uninvited one, when I can no longer avoid admitting my limitations. I am scared, I am depressed, I am a loser, I am sad, I am angry. These limits open the door to an honesty that substanstantiates the kinds of truth/s that are the other virtues. Without conscious access to the limits through this honesty, this humility, we cannot gain the high ground of the other virtues we recognize.

LOVE. Love's the greatest human virtue because all the other good virtues spring from it. When you have genuine love in your heart, you could forgive...you could appreciate people...you would learn to think of others first before yourself...you'll be honest, faithful, you would respect the rights of people, etc. Love is gentle, yet it is most powerful. Because it makes people do things they never thought possible.

The greatest human virtue is being able to ask this very question. We can only advance by asking and then attempting to answer questions.

Forgiveness... It's what really separates us from the rest of life... I mean, love some would say can be derived from the drive to procreate, or to continue the species through the protection of our own offspring... What really separates us is our ability to look past the survival instinct and give people a second chance... To really use our souls to relate with people rather than the stochiometric state of our existance. Giving our fellow man the benefit of the doubt without having any sort of personal gain in mind is most certainly the most honorable trait...

Selflessness. I'm always moved by some of the humbling things people have done, such as risking their lives to save those of others. Survival of the fittest may dictate for someone to act in the best of their interests, but to see that being defied in moments of adversity always restores the sometimes cheesy and idealistic faith I have in humankind.

Truthfulness. Because all other virtues will be affected negatively if you were untruthful.

Compassion.

Our ability to put the needs of another ahead of our own, it doesn't need love, truth or anything else. Pettiness gets put to one side, it's just a shame it's usually so short lived.
