Cameroon is by history the most successful side in Africa. The first to ever reach the quarter finals in 1986 with the African "Pele", Roger Milla.
The last side from Africa to reach the quarterfinals has been Senegal in 2002. The side went on to lose to Turkey in extra time.
Cote D'Ivoire is a strong side and played very well against Argentina. Ghana did equally well against Italy only to concede a late 2nd goal to the dismay of the continent. They looked good before the 2nd goal and it seemed that they could provide an upsetting draw. The midfield is world class and the Italians can testify to that, the defense is slightly strong but lacks the confidence. The finishing is clearly very bad and that is what cost the Black Stars to lose the game.
My verdict however would be that Ghana would do better than its colleagues, Ivory Coast, Togo, Angola and Tunisia.

Ghana and Ivory Coast are clearly the two African teams with the best pedigree, and they've both looked good so far...

Both are physically strong, athletic sides and they have a great approach to the game.

Personally, I think Ghana will struggle. They don't look like they'll can get goals against the better sides, and to be honest they've only really got 2 truly world class players.

Ivory Coast on the other hand look fantastic. They've got a lot of real quality, they're strong, technical and organised. They were unlucky not to go one better in the African Nations recently and I loved the positivity with which they approached the Argentina game.
For large parts of the game they dominated, and Argentina had to play extremely well to get a result.

Go Les Elephants!

I think it is clear to see that Ivory Coast are the top African side in this years world cup. Strong at the back with Kolo Toure in the center along with the 2 attacking full backs Boka and Eboue. Zokora is an pretty accomplished combative midfielder and Yaya Toure looked immaculate the other night. In attacking areas they show plenty of pace and power with the main attacking thrust coming from big Drogba. I'm a fan of the big man although many may disagree but nobody can doubt the work he does for his team. I think he is one of the best at the lone striker role. The £24m Chels dished out for him has disillusioned a lot of folk! I just wish he would stay on his feet a bit more and quit that rolling about! Overall though it will be tough for the Elephants to qualify as they are in this nightmare group but i wouldn't bet against them!

So far, it looks like the Ivory Coast. It's a shame that they were drawn in Group C, which is the most difficult group. With quality players from Chelsea and Arsenal in the side, they are strong both up front and in the back. I saw Angola play live -- OK, but not great. Ghana would be my second choice at this point.

Tunisia made a decent case today against Saudi Arabia... but that's not really much of a case, then, is it? I agree that the best performance overall has been Ivory Coast, but I did like the way the Angolans were able to consistently strip the ball from the Portuguese.

The question is a bit general. For world cup 2006, Ivory Coast for sure. Ghana is good as well. For the previous ones, Senegal is the one.

I think Ivory Coast... In the match against Argentina they seem very well, and better than Ghana, or Togo, or Tunisia today...
On the 2nd place there is Angola (so some of my friends in Russia are fans of Angola and they call this team AnGOALa :)))

I think draw must be more fair result in their match against Portugal than lost ;( I was impressed by Akwa and Mantorras... So I say Ivory Coast and Angola are the best Afican teams there in Germany

the best african nation is a question that will have to be decided after grouop stage, considering the two strongest ones are ghana and ivory coast, and they have the two toughest groups, so chances are neither of them will make it past group stage, however if one of them did I would consider them the strongest african country by far.
