Supply and demand must be considered either at the harvesting (ie, whaling) level or at the end-product (ie, blubber, oil, etc.) level.

The Supply in the former is the whale population itself that is within commercial fishing limits. This must be treated as a stock/flew interdependent production function. The demand relative to this has to do with the demand of whalers for whales (which is itself determined by end-product).

The supply in the latter is roughly those useable products from harvested whales. The demand here is derived from consumers, chiefly in Japan and Norway.
