Kids who grow up in homes where their parents are Republican tend to register and vote Republican. Kids who grow up where their parents are Democrats tend to be Democrats.
Talk to your parents. Ask them.
Given that, check out the websites of the two political parties.
Liberal and conservative don't have anything to do with Democrat and Republican. There are liberal Republicans and there are conservative Democrats, so liberal and conservative doesn't have anything to do with party affiliation.
Liberals believe that government which governs least, governs best. They tend to spend a lot of energy on social and domestic issues, rather than international ones. Lyndon Johnson's War on Poverty and his signing the Civil Rights Act of 1964 are two examples. Jimmy Carter campaigned for human rights as a basic American social policy and was instrumental in getting human rights policy to be a standard for international and domestic social policy. He also gave asylum to a lot of Soviet Union refusniks like Alexander Solzhenytsin and Natan Saransky. Bill Clinton reformed a rotten and corrupt public welfare system. He also balanced the U.S. budget and created a trillion dollar surplus which President Bush blew in his first two years in office.
Not all Democrats are good. Not all Democrats are evil. Not all Democrats are liberal. Not all Democrats are conservative. Not all Republicans are good. Not all Republicans are evil. Not all Republicans are liberal. Not all Republicans are conservative. Don't let a lot of kids your age tell you that all of one group are alike and all of another group are different.
There is a liberal Republican lady in our state who was a state representative. She used to say, of the 90 member legislature in our state that there were 90 political parties in our state. 60 in the House and 30 in the Senate.
How right liberal Republicans are sometimes.

Economically speaking, If you make under $1,000, 000.00 per year you will most probably benefit by democratic leadership. If On the other hand, you make over one million dollars, you will most probably benefit by republican leadership. Traditionally the democrats have better represented the working people; Whereas the republicans have better represented the very wealthy.
I am presently, a democrat . I would one day like to be wealthy, but I will probably always be a Democrat since I side with their ideals.
Some ideals that I support are:
Not to engage in war for the purpose of extracting wealth from other countries , but rather for defending our country and only if there is clear and present danger. Anything less, I think is murder, just as it is considered murder to defend oneself with deadly force even if an attacker has not threaten one with deadly force.
Not to try to use our democratic society to spread our economic way of life into other countries for the sole purpose of making money, at the expense of other countries people and cultures.

I was a Republican in college, I was President of the Young Republicans. Now I am a Democrat because the truth is that Democrats take care of the people and Republicans steal from the people and take care of the very wealthy and corporations.

I am a democrat and I think that they tend to try to help the poor and middle class with their legislation, they tend to tax the rich more and they are the ones that can afford it better. The repuglicans tend to tax the rich less leaving the poor and middle class to pick up the slack. The last repuglican that I voted for was Richard Nixon, yes, he was a crook, but not as big a crook as what we have in the white house at this time.

It depends on your values. Really the bottom line is how many taxes you want to pay. If you want to pay alot of taxes - then vote democratic and they will raise your taxes to fund useless social programs for lazy people. If you want more of your money in your pocket then vote republican becuase they cut taxes and look for other means to fund necessary social programs. That being said about republicans (I am one), this administration has spent more money than any other administration (rep & dem) and that is very concerning.

yes certainly research what each stands for & debate with others & decide what you stand for, but so far as parties, it really is best if you vote for candidates rather than what party they represent. That said, you'll find that you tend to agree more with one party or the other & will most likely be voting for their candidates. Well, actually you probably won't entirely agree with either party & may actually agree more with a third party but since they don't win they don't matter. Make up your own mind & do what you think is right, always.
I'm a republican, just for the record.

unless you intend to get deeply involved in poitics, working for the party, running for office, etc. it doesn't make much difference. You can vote for candidates in either party as you wish. The republicans are better organized - I get all kinds of mail and phone calls that my husband doesn't as well as offers to drive me to the polls and lke that, and I'm not a contributor. But I vote the way I want to - for the best person.
