PC_Hoser is definitely correct. If you have a motherboard that supports overclocking, plus RAM that supports it (if the motherboard doesn't have RAM dividers), then your Socket 754 3400 can go as high as 2.6Ghz. It just won't go that high on stock cooling. But then again, it may only do 2.25Ghz, there's no way to know ahead of time.

Nice and cold room temps, thats good. Um...
Change your RAM dividers to 5:6 so you don't max out ur RAM before maxing out your cpu, whats even better is chaning your divider to 3:4, when you reach your maximum CPU fsb, change your divider back to 5:6
okay, well your cpu can be 1 of 4
a 1.8 ghz
a 2.0 ghz
a 2.2 ghz
a 2.4 ghz
if you have a 1.8, you should be able to get up to 2.2 or so
if you have a 2.0, you should be able to get up to 2.3 or so
if you have a 2.2, that is a mobile, and you cna't do anything about that
if you have a 2.4, you should be able to get up to 2.7 or so
I had a 4000+ which is 2.4, i reached 3ghz, but i doubt the 3400+ can do that
you might want an aftermarket cooler such as the Zalman CPNS9500 or the Thermaltake Big Typhoon
When you overclock, DO NOT move the fsb of the cpu higher than 5 fsb at a time! THAT IS IMPORTANT
Download Speedfan and Prime95 before you do anything.
everytime you raise it about 5 to 10 fsb (or when you get close to the limit i told you) open up Speedfan and watch the top temperature. Use Prime95 and the Torture Tests as Speedfan is still up. IF your load temps are below 56 C, you are good. Let Prime95 run on its own for about 12 to 24 hours. If it passes to 15 hour mark, then your computer is completely stable and you can move higher
Be patient, it takes a very very long time

Too many variables, what kind of motherboard? Does it support overclocking? If it does, go to a reputable website for answers. MaximumPC just had an excellent overclocking issue about 2 months ago. Also Tom's Hardware has alot of info guides.

just gradually raise the multiplyer and bus speed and see what works. if it doesn't boot into windows, you have raised it too far and you'll need to lower it some.
if you are serious about overclocking, you may want to get some arctic silver compound and a better heatsink/fan.
