I had the same type of problem installing memory to a HP Pavillion 512w. The computer would not recognize the new memory installed to it. I took it to my instructor at the school where I attend computer courses, and he had no better luck than I and I know that he tried EVERYTHING because we had this guys computer for about 4 months swapping different memory in and out! It seems that the HP/Compaq's are so proprietary that they won't even accept generic memory! At least not the Pavillion 512w!

somew boards that are made for pc100 won't suport pc133, and it is possible that if it makes a mistake with it in the bios, it is gonna mess up xp, I would suggest not using it and getting another pc100, alternative to try, try just the pc133 without the pc100 and see if it will boot, and then you know it is just a compatibility problem

determine you change the pc off once you place interior the hot ram so it could "reset" and then verify for a differece in ram. additionally, some processors will purely settle for a definite quantity of optimal ram...did you according to threat have already got the max quantity and can't deploy to any extent further? one extra element to contemplate is this, some ram configurations require it to be put in in pairs...as an occasion, you won't be able to have mismatched pairs..this is extra useful to have 2 one gig enjoying cards than to attempt to put in one 2 gig card. determine additionally that in case you have DDR2 ram which you're no longer attempting to isntall a diverse tech card like DDR3. That wont artwork.
