Oh, there's lots of low-calorie foods to eat that will help you lose weight. I was on a low-cal diet myself and it worked very well.
What you need to eat is vegetables such as lettuce and cabbage salads (this is actually bagged coleslaw mix) but instead of adding mayonnaise, add low-calorie, lower fat dressing. Actually what I learned, is that it is not so much fat that will add pounds, but CALORIES. Add diced tomatoes, chopped onions, and if you like, dry tuna or chicken meat to the salad and you will have something extremely low-calorie (under 300).
Another good thing to eat is tomato soup, any brand, but I like Campbell's the best. One can is very low-calorie and low-fat. You could also heat up V-8, the vegetable drink, and add spices and it tastes like vegetable soup but with even fewer calories.
Steamed green beans (but with NO meat or grease of any kind) but with added seasonings such as garlic powder, onion powder, chopped fresh onion and/or garlic, red pepper flakes, etc. has practically no calories and is filling. Along with the green beans, get some frozen, skinless chicken breasts and bake it in the oven or cook it on the stovetop. I believe the skinless chicken breasts are even more low-calorie than fish because some fishes are actually quite fatty like salmon.
For snacks, eat things like oranges and grapefruit. Refreshing and sweet things but very little calories. Boiled Egg whites with salt and pepper with a few crackers are good snacks too. A few slices of Canadian bacon for a snack with it is pretty low-calorie and extremely low-fat. Carrots and celery sticks with low-fat onion dip, but not too much dip because the calories add up, are good as well. Half a cup of steamed cabbage is 16 calories, one cup of cooked frozen broccoli is 52 calories, one cup of canned asparagus is 46 calories, one cup of oat bran is 88 calories, and there are many more things that are very low-cal when you further investigate.
And in the meantime, you don't have to let other people laugh at you. They have no right to do that to you; they are acting like inconsiderate bullies and you have the right to correct them!
Take care, you can do it!

keep track of what you eat and get out of the house and walk, walk, walk...however you usually eat-cut that in half...if you drink more liquids that helps too-instead of sweet and salty snacks---try raw carrots, celery; apples, pears---drink skim milk---do something besides watch tv...try to hook up with someone who is trying to lose weight also...write all the stuff down that you eat(do this before you retire)...(cut tv watching in half too).I hope this is helpful.
