It is a drug designed to prevent ovulation and thus pregnancy. Although it is called the morning after pill, you could take it up to 72 hours after the event but it is best taken within 24 hours.

It is regarded as a method of contraception rather than abortion generally.

It's a contraceptive pill best taken within 24 hours, but can be taken up to 72 hours. You have to get it thru a prescription. It should only be used in emergency situations, like if the condom broke. It's called a contraceptive because it PREVENTS the sperm from fertilizing an egg. It won't abort a fertilized egg. It takes sperm up to 72 hours to fertilize an egg. This is why it's best taken in the first 24.
