Defragment your hard drive at least twice a month
Run Anti-Virus scanner every week
Check for spyware every other week
Clean out your internet files (cookies, temp files, etc.)

That should be just about it. I don't believe that I have missed anything.

I guess I'm a little more aggressive when it comes to this stuff! I do a AVG anti-virus scan every time I come off the Internet. The same goes for Ad-Aware. Occasionally, I will throw in a scan of "Spy-bot" or "Windows Defender". All are free downloads. Before I scan I'll check for updates on each program and delete cookies, temporary files, and history under "Internet Options" in the control panel. I've also set up scheduled scans for each of these programs. I'm tired of getting stung! I "Defrag" about once a week normally, and after I install or delete programs from my computer. I do a "Scan Disk For Errors" about once a month.
