Advertising is very different from publicity. Advertising is a paid form of spreading information on a large-scale across consumers and involves several mediums for conveying the messages. These mediums include the mass and electronic media sources.

On the contrary, publicity is a non-paid form of spreading information and is basically done by the Government or non-profit organizations. Spreading AIDS awareness or Breast Cancer awareness by the NGOs are some common examples of publicity.
