Hemingway.

All that I've read of Brown has so far (4 novels) has been in the thriller genre and his two biggest books have incredibly similar structures (not plots, structures). Plotting is his greatest strength.

Hemingway, even in his early writings, covered a wider range of genres and lengths of story. He was able to create more character development in a couple of his short sentences than Brown can in a chapter of description, and his greatest strength was in suggestion (showing, rather than telling.)

I have been to Ernest Hemingway's home in Key West. I have petted the descendants of his six toed cats. To believe that you can judge someone's work based on your own opinions is foolish. They have different style of writing. It would be like comparing the Great Wall of China to the Roman Colosseum. Both are magnificent works in stone but serve two different audiences. Literature is much the same way. Ernest Hemingway was a talented man who could hold his own in the world of literature, not just an alcoholic.*hack* Dan Brown is not as original as Ernest Hemingway, he's being sued for stealing material from other writers. His book was amusing but not very credible.*hack*~smiles

Where is the comparison? Both wrote on completely different genres. Its like saying is Deepak Chopra a better writer than J K Rowling!
Personally, I would choose Hemingway over Brown anyday.

Mr Hemingway every single time. He wrote with such diversity and appealed to such a wide range of readership. He was equally powerful with his pen ans he was humble

Dan Brown has written an obviously popular novel - however, it is akin to a Hollywood Block Buster.

By that I mean, it is like comparing such a timeless classic as the movie 'The African Queen' to something like 'Big Momma's House'

Hemmingway by a mile. He LIVED the adventure, and then survived to write about it.
