Many architects get new clients in several ways:
1 - word of mouth
2 - phone book advertisements
3 - networking with contractors/builders

That's what I'd like to know too! All I've got is jobs from other architectural firms, where I've worked. You have to have some finished projects to attract clients, but in order to have projects you need clients!

advertising helps, ask ppl who you've worked for to sponser you. put the name of your company on your trucks, when you're doin a job make sure there's a big sayin lettin ppl who drive bye know who you are
