I am 16, and for the last 2 or 3 years, I have have had severe sharp pains in the groin area, and 12 day long periods. Sometimes they are so horrible I have to lie in fetal position for hours at a time. The last 2 months my periods have been the same time & length but the blood is black, throughout the whole 12 days. Can anyone help me at all? Thank you.

Speaking from personal experience, this sounds like classic symptoms of ovarian cysts (especially if the pain is primarily on one side more than the other). These can but are usually not that serious however everyone and their case varies in severity. Some ovarian cysts go away on their own while others can require surgical intervention. Unfortunately, it's hard to say what the pains can be contributed from. It could be a number of things. Only your family physician or OBGYN can run the appropriate tests and correctly diagnose the problem. Make that appointment ASAP!!! You can't afford to take a chance with issues that concern your health.

U might have cysts on your ovaries or endemetriosis which is where the lining of the uterus grows outside the uterus and into the pelvic area. It is a very painful disease and only surgery can help it. I used to have the very same symptoms and I had polycystic disease in both of my ovaries. There are cysts that form on the ovaries when you are trying to ovulate and release the egg. I had surgery 4 times for it and finally they took out one ovary and half of the other. That is called an oophrectomy. When they take out your uterus, it is called a hysterectomy. Many people mistake a hysterectomy for the uterus and the tubes and ovaries when in reality, it is only the uterus. If they take out your ovaries, u need to take hormones after that or you will be in menopause big time. Talk about hot sweats, you will be drenched in sweat morning, noon, or night. It is very uncomfortable. Go to the doctor and have it checked out. Sometimes there is nothing you can do but take Midol for the symptoms, but it is better to find out if there is something wrong or not.

You must go to the doctor! You may have fibrocysts like I had. I had 10 day periods and they were really heavy. It's a problem. I hope you told your parents/guardian. Insist to go to the doctor.
