Wars are investments, they realized the power vaccum this war would create as well as the potential threat so they allowed Japan to attack us to give the war national sentiment. The war caused the european nations to go into debt and take loans from the US, thus giving the US a decicive geopolitical edge in the world sphere.

If you want an A paper, research why WW2 began and where it started, then the involvement of the United States will be in better perspective, it can not be answered in one cut dried statement, but the bombing of Pearl Harbor brought about a declaration of war.

US was into second world war long before Pearl harbour bombing. As a matter of fact pearl harbour was bombed to weaken US when it entered the war.
When the war in Europe broke out - and france fell, given the anglo connections it was anticipated that like the first world war US will again come in to aid allies.
why US entered war - well because
1. an average american wanted it.
2. american trade and hence all important money flow was dying - its trade partners were falling one by one to the Axis
3. The war in Pacific was almost a backyard game - which meant a japanese landing on west coast was possible - hence if US didnt goto war war would have come to it.

There were many reasons, but the most compelling one was the bombing of Pearl Harbor and killing many US Navy sailors. This was the first attack by a foreign country on US soil that it was like a slap in the face to everyone. The other justifiable reasons were the expansion of the Japanese army across Asia and the Pacific. There were also the other Allie countries needing help with Germany on the attack. You should google "Start of WWII" for more information.

when japan bombed Pearl harbor, Sunday DEC 7, 1941, Hitler declared war on the USA the next day, so from this day we were officially in two battles at the same time, Europe and the South pacific and came out the victor in both battles, in Vietnam we lost the war but we won all the battles

forgot yur history huh..?...two words, Pearl Harbour..but honestly, the US knew that i would have to eventually get involved in the war at some point coz europe was being taken over real fast, like candy from a baby (future note to all european nations, I AM NOT STAYING IN YUR COUNTRY IF THERE EVER WAS A WORLD WAR 3) lol...that said, pearl harbour was a catalyst tht spurred the us into the war but not the sole reason...
