Cricket is a regional only service. What that means is that it has a limited calling area. For instance, I used to have Cricket. I could only use it within my calling area. If I went outside the service area, there was no service signal. Which basically means that you are extremely limited in your use. Of course, on the other hand, you don't have to sign a contract and can drop the service at any time if you dont like it. I didnt like it because of the limited service area, and went with Cingular instead. The service contract is 2 years, but I can go anywhere in the world (almost) and have signal. And the monthly price is about the same as Cricket's most expensive program with tons more features.

I believe it has been around for a while, so it's not new.

Anyways, I own a Cricket phone. I chose this over other phone suppliers because of what you mentioned, lower fee, unlimited free calls (to anywhere in the US, excluding Alaska) and text messaging. It's basically your basic phone package. I like it!

The only part I don't like is that there is no roaming. Meaning, you only have a certain area you can use your phone in. Once you go out of that area, you have a useless phone if you are ever in an emergency.

It's not new. It's been in Dayton Ohio for a few years now. I didn't have cricket, but there was a lot of people around town that did have it.

Sucks big time. They introduced in phoenix and it was a craze. But service is too bad and you can only use it in that city
