Grandparents gave gr.daughter electronic gifts over the past year. When father and stepmother excercised right to discipline daughter(restrictions)by taking away those items, the gr.parents sided with the child against the father demanding and threatening the father to return the items to the child or else they would claim the items initially belonged to them by providing reciepts for the sale of the items. Both of the parents of the minor child in question have been divorced for over 2yrs with mother having 51% custody and father 49%. The gr.parents are using their influence to undermine the fathers right to parent. Could the father ask the courts for a restraining order against such gr.parents?? The daughter has since refused to visit with father on court ordered visitation days for the past seven weeks since the restrictions began due to poor academics and behavior.

Can either the police/sheriff come to our home and force us to give the gifts back to the gr.parents if they show the reciepts (bill of sale)?

Regarding the property, if it's in your home, no one can take it without a court order or a criminal complaint alleging it was stolen. Since it is unlikely the gp will falsify a police complaint, I wouldn't worry too much about the property.

Generally speaking, the police do not have the right to enter your home or property without a warrant in the majority of cases, Exceptions for responding to call from home and domestic violence.

In the matter of the child, you really need to consult with a local attorney. There are too many variables for anyone to give you specific or accurate advice over the Internet.

Good luck and hang in there.

Oh my goodness, its too bad people have to fight like that to begin with. Unfortunately the grandparents arent a physical threat to the child so it would have to be proved they are unfit mentally to be around the child.

I feel the father has the right to "restrict" anything, it doesnt matter who bought it. I have taken things away from my kids that they bought with their own money (tv, xbox, phone, stereo etc.) to prove a point in punishment. I also believe their father can do what he needs to in his home, we cant take sides against the other parent.

take it to the judge that issued the order .... they have no right intervening with your parenting ...even if they disagree with your decisions... they raised their children their way let you raise yours your way
dont just stand by and accept it , or the fact that she refuses to visit with you because of your discipline ...take it back to court
