Have you ever had this happen??? I don't know what to do! Do you know of a toothpaste that won't make me want to throw up? I am afraid to brush my teeth because of it! Any ideas? Or should I just "grin" and bear it.

I don't think specifically toothpaste does this, but I am aware that pregnant women can have heightened sensitivity in their taste buds and this sometimes means they can be put off by normal everyday things. (It also means they can suddenly develop a taste for some odd things.... Pickles and ice-cream sound good??)

Personally, I found that fruit juices were my problem. They didn't make me feel sick, but I found I couldn't drink straight juice without diluting it with water. One part juice to 3 parts water. It took me nearly 18 months after my daughter arrived to get the taste for juice only back. Even now, it's not one of my favourite choices to drink. I prefer water.

Maybe see if another "flavour" of toothpaste makes it more bearable. Pick up some travel sizes and try them out.

Good luck!

While being pregnant most everything will make you want to throw up but after awhile it will pass and you won't feel like throwing up so much or so often.
Try changing your brand of toothpaste to one that doesn't have a strong flavor to it and that might help some.and also try using your "clean" finger to use as a brush instead of your toothbrush too. Sometimes the brush itself has the effect of making you feel like throwing up too.
Don't worry about it just try one of these suggestions to see if either of any helps you with this problem, OKAY.
Take care.

Fluoride toothpaste (and everything else too) made me gag when I was pregnant, so I just used a wet toothbrush. After my baby was born and I was no longer getting sick (it took awile) I tried the fluoride stuff again, same thing. Now I use Tom's of Maine apricot flavor toothpaste with no problem. Baby is almost 3 and regular toothpaste is still nauseating.

When you're pregnant, hormones do so many weird things to your body. My husband sleeps with his mouth open, and I could smell everything he ate that day. Have you tried Tom's Toothpaste? There's a strawberry and an orange mango. Also children's toothpastes come in flavors like bubble gum and fruit punch. What if you hold your nose while you brush so you can't taste it? Good luck!

Some tastes make you gag when pregnant. You could try using a different flavour toothpaste or just plain water is better than not brushing.

It did for me. I experimented with all different flavors of toothpastes, trying to find one that wouldn't make me hurl. I didn't have any success. I ended up just brushing with a wet tooth brush and afterwords chewing with sugar free gum. I figured that was better than going without.

Good luck.

Grin and bear it. I loved pizza, but when I was about 3 months pregnant we went out for pizza, and it totally nauseated me. It took a couple of years before I could eat it again. I have never liked pizza that much since then.

If trying different flavors (vanilla, lemon, cinammon) doesn't help, try plugging your nose and 'mouth breathing' while you brush. At least then you can't tast anything.
After about 14 weeks it should subside.....unless you are one of the unlucky ones who gets morning sickness the WHOLE pregnancy!
Good luck!
P.S. I still can't STAND the smell of my hubby's HUGO cologne. It makes me feel nauseated all over again. It's funny what pregnancy will do to you.
