What can keep downloaded Yahoo messenger from functioning properly ? I've checked all 4 preferences. None work

Question

I've successfully downloaded yahoo messenger but it doesn't function properly for some reason. The screen comes up even before AOL comes on my screen but it does not actually allow me to sign on...it does actually but it doesn't connect. I've checked all of the connection options on the box at the top {Connections} with no proxies..firewall with no proxies...etc...none allow me access.
I think it may be my computer...but it did work once..I even got that new phone call service to work once but not since. It does allow me voice usage when I use 2.0 thru regular Chat on Yahoo but it's not messenger. Just hoping someone knows something I don't. I'd be appreciative if you can be of some help. I need specific instructions ...as I'm NOT a computer scientist . I unfortunately have no choice but to use this computer using only windows 98SE. I hope that isn't going to make this problem unsolvable.

Hello,
There can be a number of things that can do that. First if you got a firewall, dis-able it for the time being and try yahoo.
Second is you say it does allow you to log in but nothing happens? are you on dial up or dsl does the ISP have a firewall they run that might be the problem if they do.
or you might have a nasty virus running ramped on your computer. Norton's 2006 will find it and destroy it that coats around $60 in addition to that I would suggest an antispy program that keeps out adware and melware from creeping in your computer from the internet when your not watching or away from your computer they mainly run around 20 to 30 dallors

seem on the procedure tray at the backside proper hand nook of your reveal, you will have your personal tastes set to vehicle cover the messenger window. there will have to be a logo for yahoo messenger within the procedure tray, double-click on it and it will have to deliver up messenger.
