they make cheap stuff for them to play with at petsmart or walmart. The thing with stuffed animals or any kind of "fluff" is that they hoard it in their cheeks and sometimes can get stuck in there stomachs and they can die. When I was younger I had a hamster die from some stuff they call "bed fluff" or something like that. Its supposed to be for them to sleep on, but a lot of hamsters died from it. My hamsters loved having those flavored pieces of wood which keeps their teeth trimmed. They also liked those treat sticks made out of what looks like bird seed, but are made for hamsters. For the most part they just played in their wheel at night.

I'd buy a cage first. Then, set it up at home, look skeptically at it for a while, and then decide what you want to put in it. There are a few items that a hamster *needs* but everything else is simply optional. What a hamster needs: Running wheel (should be plastic, ones with bars or rungs in them are usually harmful to pets) Food bowl (my hamster has 3, though) Water bottle (should be refilled, at the minimum, at LEAST every week) Food (but of course, seed mixes or pellets are best) A place to sleep A place to pee Bedding But my hamster also has a plastic piggy bank, a loopy-tube thing, a hamster-sized plastic TV, a hamster-sized plastic car, a Critter Bath (even though it's for Dwarf hamsters, and she's a Golden hamster; she still loves it), a plastic food bowl lamp, a log-shaped Snack Shack, a plastic bed thing, and a Timber Hide-Away as toys.... and probably some other things, too, which I have forgotten.... And of course, she has LOTS of bedding. Kleenex or an old sock is best, in my opinion. But my hamster mostly uses Kleenex. I recommend a big cage, also. The one I got was about Canadian $100, but it had a dent in it so it was on a discount. Her wheel is rather nice and big, so she can run in it easily, but she also has a smaller blue plastic one with rungs. Her feet can't get caught in them or anything; they're too big. Hope this helped ya! My hamster seems pretty happy how she is right now. Oh, and also, hamsters need LOTS of attention. They are happy and won't bite you when you give them lots of attention. <3333

No, stuffed animals will hurt the hammy. They chew everything you put in there, so you have to make sure the toys you choose will not harm the little guy... My hamster loves tunnels and he loves to climb!! You can buy wooden, flat squares that connect to make a climbing structure for them at PetSmart or Petco. Also, my hamster absolutely LOVES running around in one of those balls. But don't leave him in there for too long, or he will overheat. You could buy a "play pin" for him and set up wheels and tunnels, etc. so he gets some (recommended) time outside of his cage. Just make sure you have the time to watch it, because they are tricky and can escape when you are not watching. Also unscented toilet paper that you shred into strips. Hamsters love organizing and making a nest out of that. And of course, they must have a wheel. In the wild, hamsters run on average up to 8 miles a night, so make sure you have a wheel for him!! And handle it often so he gets used to you, just make sure until he is comfortable to handle him low to the ground of your cage... they will jump off without thinking twice! Enjoy!

and don't listen to the post about putting in another hamster!! Hamsters are solitary and do NOT get along with others!

I don't think I would put a stuffed animal in the hamster's cage. It could choke on the hairs and/or stuffing. I would go to a hardware store and buy a medium sized pvc pipe, take it home, run it through the dish washer and put that in it's cage. Also, Wal-Mart does sell hamster/gerbil toys that aren't very expensive.

Also, being the owner of a hamster, you may want to feed hhim/her some fresh vegetables every other day or so...most hamsters tend to enjoy that a lot.

They also like to make nests, and I usually give mine a couple of kleenexes when I change his cage and he makes a comfy little nest with them.

Good Luck with your hamster!!! They make fun little friends!!!

definately don't put in a stuffed animal. it'll chew it up and may choke on the stuffing! the best things are those little houses and toys they sell especially for hamsters at pet stores, you can even give them empty toilet paper and paper towel rolls. they will also sleep in old tissue boxes, just make sure you remove the plastic from the inside of the hole that way it won't choke on it. i've had many different kinds of rodents.

No he would eat the stuffing .Something that can't be chewed or fall over and hurt the hampster would be safest .Go ask them at a pet store or to save money go look at the hamster toys and find something like it but cheaper. They do like tunnels though.

A stuffed animal wouldnt be good cause they can chew through things really well and make a terrible mess. Mabey try a running wheel or a hard ball or something.

a hamster might eat the hairs off a stuffed animal and choke so i would say no... anything rubber and meant for hamsters would be okay. Make sure it doesnt come apart or has anything to choke on

The healthiest thing to put with a hamster is another hamster of the opposite sex. they will play with each other all day and night.
