Yes I too have been told this at times and I too am the most down to earth person I know.
It is a very slight put down.
It is saying that you are odd, strange, out of the ordinary, different, peculiar.
I would take it as a put down.
I would from that point on assume that the person who said it was not really my friend and tuck it away in my mind.

Always listen to your feelings.
The fact that you asked that here means that you are bothered by it. And if you are bothered by it, it means that your inner voice is telling you that this person insulted you. The inner voice will never lie to you. Always trust your feelings. If it feels wrong, it IS wrong.

It's not necessarily an insult. I've been called "weird," among other things, plenty of times. All it means to me is that I live life on my own terms and for my own good, never harming others. Like you, I'm also one of the most down-to-earth people I know.

No not at all it might be that they mean you do things differently but in a good way and they use the term weird to describe it. just look at the expressions on there faces when they say it to tell if it is in a good way or not.

Without knowing the circumstances behind their comment towards you, its a little more difficult to give you an honest opinion. Then again, that just might be your answer, its just their opinion. I'm sure we've all had that happen before at some point in our lives. =)

If you are comfortable with who you are, then just let comments like that pass on by. It's more important to be happy with yourself than worry about what others think about you. Their opinions do matter to a degree, however. I wouldnt go out of my way to change who i am so that someone else liked me more. I would be lying to myself if I did that. If they arent open enough to accept you, forget them.

Nothing is an insult if you don't want it to be! It's all just in your head, it's your choice that whether or not you take it that way.
