Almost 50% of the hair on my legs is ingrown, and because of that it's all bumpy and looks like I have red blemishes all over my legs as well as black ones where the hair is grown inside the skin. And yes I do exfoliate all the time, helps a bit but not much. The only way to actually get rid of them is to squeeze them out which results in scars!!!I Please tell me what to do! I want nice smooth legs for the summer!!!

I did my own search and got this off a website:

1. Be gentle when shaving. Go over your skin lightly with a clean, not dull, razor blade and use shaving cream.

2. Exfoliate. Swipe skin regularly with lotions or easy-to-use pads that contain the exfoliators glycolic, salicylic or other hydroxy acids, all of which clear away the dead skin cells that clog pores and hair follicles. Try M.D. Skincare Alpha Beta Daily Body Peel ($78; mdskincare.com) or Poetic Cosmetics Ingrown Eliminator lotion ($25; blissworld.com).

3. Find the best method of hair removal for you and stick with it. Once you figure out which one causes the least bumps for you--whether it's waxing, shaving or using depilatory lotions--don't switch.

4. Reduce hair permanently. It's pricey, but laser hair removal, which targets the hair follicle pigment and damages the hair shaft and root, reduces cell's ability to produce hair.

1. Put Melaleuca oil on the red spots. (You have an infection or inflammation around the hair follicles and this will cut both by natural means.)
2. A longer term solution is not to shave so close. You want to have a little bit of the hair sticking out the follicle to keep it from growing inside the skin!

I get that to,especially when I've been wearing long pants most of the time. Keep doing what you are doing, it will probably get better if you are wearing shorts most of the time now. I put acne medicine on the red bumps and I also pluck ingrown hairs out with the tweezers. You might also want to try that new stuff called veet instead of using a razor to shave with. Veet is kinda like Nair, but better and it doesn't smell bad.

Tea tree oil really helps. It naturally dries out the pimple and kills bacteria. It is also good for your skin. Just dab it on the ingrown hair once to twice a day, and they should go away pretty soon depending on the oil inside them.
