Maybe the way tobacco products are advertised and promoted needs to changed but ban it all together? No.....it is a viable product and like most things if used in moderation by adults there is nothing wrong with it. Plus as an after thought, if it was banned get ready to pay a lot more in taxes in general. My state alone collects almost $30 million a year in cigarette taxes. You think if they banned tobacco they would give up that $30 Million? No way, it would made up in higher gas, sales, and/or property taxes.

Tobacco should be abolished... and it's not question of money...

because a country spends (or should have spent) those 30Mln and more on health of smoking people (and ones, who chose not to smoke - but because of people smoking next to them are getting nicotine and etc... "passively"). And secondly, when people don't buy tobacco, so they will spend their money to buy something else and those 30mln will reach to state budget through other products. And besides that in most of developed countries (that is a aim of developing countries) indirect taxes (e.g. VAT etc.) makes a small part in comparison to direct taxes (e.g. income tax) which makes the economy healthier...

BUT... the question is HOW it is done...
for sure abolishing it in one moment is also wrong. It is proved, that giving up without supervision and in one moment can be as dangerous as keeping smoking... so it should not be a process in a moment, but a lasting campaign starting from abolishing commercials and starting propaganda of not smoking and finishing by abolishing to produce / sell / smoke e.g.
but I'll repeat, non smoking is more likely to reach through propaganda, than through legal prohibitions...
