Philosophy is very practical. Many think "PHILOSOPHY" is an abstract subject dealing with some super natural half spiritual aspects and can not be understood by ordinary mortals.Philosophy is to life what facts are to science."Apple falls on the ground from tree because of gravity" is science.Undestanding that in the absence of gravity the apple goes somewhere into space and all the planets get disorderely with tragic results is philosophy.

It hasn't been practical since the dawn of man. That's what sets us apart from the animal kingdom. Our ability to think and reason and seek purpose isn't always practical. We have a deep need to know where we came from, why we exist and what is our purpose. Just to merely exist isn't enough, like it is for animals. We want to know why the sun rises in the east and sets in the west. That isn't practical. TO just accept nature and not question it is practical.

Philosophy is our mental blood. It's been with us ever since the cave man made his first tool. He asked, "who am I?" when he realized he just had become a creator. He stepped up from the rest of the animals by using his imagination.

And, his "philosophy of being" was born. His purpose, ever since, has been creation.

It's one of the most practical disciplines, actually.
If you really want to know how to "think outside the box"
a 2-year schooling in "business" is going to teach you nothing.

for the purpose of well-being
for giving a person analytic tools to deal with the world.
for giving a person the wealth of our human heritage.

Unless you define "practical" as
being a robot, hedonist, anecdotal slave.

because philosophers are total loosers when it comes to life. You can't BE a philosopher unless you've had a lousy life and nobody really cares what you think or mean or say.
