"The sign of the times" This just pisses me off. What the h e l l do they mean by that? Now the media is trying to influence people into believing that the world is coming to a end by the stupid s h i t that people do. Everytime I watch ABC nightly or primetime, they're always saying "I guess this is the sign of the times." It just errks the h e l l of of me.

Why? Because where do they get off by telling people that. This phrase wasn't being used a year ago, they just recently started saying it, and it's stupid. Nobody know when the world is coming to an end NOBODY, so who are they to say that.

Just like they had people stocking up on water and s h i t when we reached 2000, you see how that went.

The expression "sign of the times' has been used for many decades. It is a very simple, innocuous phrase used to collectively describe what is the "typical and average" behavior, style, belief, etc. of the present.

I believe your assessment that this expression refers to the world coming to an end is incorrect. That expression would be "the end times" and that is an entirely different issue.

Best to you. Hope you find your answer.

Things tend towards destruction the farther we go into the future. That's all that means. We certainly haven't gotten "better" at being alive and living. At the turn of the century, right off the bat, we had the first two world wars. It isn't about a religious apocalypse, necessarily. It's just about the general consensus that we have gone from bad to worse. It can't be helped. No one wants to change. People keep littering, people keep thinking that we should be able to do whatever we want, no one wants to make guns illegal, and all of these things drive people to religions, and the more extreme society gets, the more extreme the religions get.

You must understand that from an older generations perspective that we have seen many many changes coming and not always ones we like so this would be just a way of just leaning to cope with what we do not like. It is not because the world is coming to an end although i would not be surprised by anything after all that we have seen in the last thirty years but no its not because the world is coming to an end it is just a way of expressing acceptance, kind of what your generation means by saying: "Whatever". It is not one of my favorite sayings either. Were even now.

does it bother you if it is the sign of the time? just try to understand you can never control life or what will happen in the future...once you realize that, maybe it won't matter much to you...i could care less if the media says it is the signs of the time...i am an peace in my heart...whatever happens, happens.

I believe that you are reading something extra into the expression that is not implied. The expression is "sign of the times" (i.e. the present time) not "sign of the end times" (which would deal with eschatology)

well, if you need to put spaces between the word "hell" then I assume you are an overly-sensitive person and need to lighten up!

"the sign of the times" pisses you off? all that means is "look at this disgusting world we have created, and this event shows us why it's like this."

wouldn't you agree?
