Because it might end up disolving because of the liquid. That would leave a huge mess. But it is an interesting idea! Try and work on it and get it patented! You can make a whole lotta money!

There are edible plastic (plastic that is made out of plants and is bio-degradable). In fact, I heard that some armies in the world are using these edible plastic to make their food containers, spoons, fork, knives.... So, when they are done with eating, they can eat up those forks, knives and stuff too. It would not surprise me if people can use these edible plastic to do the cups though but I don't know what the cost would be to make such an edible cup.

But then again, if people were to eat up the cups before they finish the drinks, the drinks would be everywhere and then people would sue and all that. After all, if there are people stupid enough to sue over hot coffee, they can sue over spilt drinks too.

If restaurants served drinks in edible cups, the cups would dissolve after a while because of the moisture.

Filling up your own bottle is theft, just FYI. I'll buy a large drink for several reasons. The price difference usually isn't that great, for one thing. I may want to fill the cup up and take it with me when I leave, in which case I want a big cup. During busy periods the crowd around the drink dispenser can get pretty thick, and I don't want to have to get up four times for a refill and have to wait in line each time.

Because it's unsanitary.

If there weren't people that are absolutely disgusting, there wouldn't be a problem.

I wanted to add that wax is edible, and the inside of the cup can be lined with it. This would get rid of the problem of the cup disolving.

What would you make the edible cups out of?

my guess would be because of the FDA...all those fast people touching your yummy cup and filling it up and setting it on the counter and touching someones dirty money....you wouldn't hardly be able to drink out of it wrapped in plastic(the sanitary and proper way) not to mention it would defeat the purpose of the edible cup, would it not? why would you want an empty cup to snack on...? and my final answer is "Because the fast food industry needs to control infectious disease"

What don't sit down fine dining places have them? Now that's a good idea;) j/k
Probably too cheap to do the research to make one worth while. Look at what they pay people, 'nuff said.
