would ing savings be a good venue to park the excess cash, i know you obviuosly wouldnt want to take high risks with this money.

Mark is correct. Some years ago I was on corporate staff at a large comglomerate with about 475 companies. With the close of business (daily) of each company we used their excess cash by primarily loaning it to banks through the money markets. We made significant return from these short term investments.

Of course they are. But why would they want to -- when they can get a much better return investing in T-Bills, CDs, Commercial Paper and the Repo market.
