He is barely rolling over, not sitting up, just does not seem right. I have said things to my sister and she says he is lazy. I am really concerned about him. I have a 9 month old and he was doing alot more than him when he was 5 months old. I know every child is different, but isn't he behind

He is not a preemie. She has taking him to th Doc., but i do not think she tells the truth about his development.

The only things he does do is grasp toys, chew on things , but he falls forward when i try sitting him up.. I watch him during the day and i work with him all day. I am just scared something is wrong and my sister is scared to face it. I just really noticed him rolling over the past 2 weeks and he turned 7 months old the 11th. I try not to compare him to my 9 month old, but i can not help but notice the drastic difference in their development.

please do not listen to others when it comes to your child being lazy. my daughter is almost 5 now, she was slower than the average child and started out the same way as your child, people calling it lazyness. please take my advice from one mother to another have your child checked with your pediatrician, be consistant, getting referred to a pediactric specialist may help too. my little girl has been dignosed with sprectrim autism disorder and adhd since she was 2 yrs.old. do not take things lightly. and never let anyone call your child lazy because he /she may have a real problem. as they get older.

Based on what you wrote above, he is in the "late average" category. Babies roll over stomach to back at an average age of 3-6 months, and back to stomach at an average age of 4-7 months. (See sources section below.) Sitting without support is on average 5-9 months. So at most, he is a little behind. Your child may have been on the early side of doing things, so your expectations are different.

I have 5 kids. My youngest had a 3 year old vocabulary at 16 months old, and my oldest only *started* talking at that age. The oldest one was (and continues to be) a perfectionist; he wouldn't talk until he could say full sentences. He also did everything else late. He's is extremely gifted in math.

On the other hand, you might be right. Talk to your sister. But the botom line is that he's *her* son. You have the right to an opinion, but as long as she isn't actually neglecting him (and what you asked does *not* indicate neglect), you don't get a vote.

My daughter was the same way. She didn't roll over until she was like 8 months old. And then started sitting up. She was ahead in trying to communicate and other things though...
When I took her to her checkups, I would always ask if anything was really wrong with her, and the dr. said she is just being a lazy baby.
My daughter never really stretched her legs out to stand (you know how some newborns that are a few weeks old..they will stretch their legs to stand in your lap? Well...she wouldn't do that..). She finally started trying to stand at about 10 months old. At every check up, I would have the dr. check her hips, and the length of her legs and stuff...she said everything was fine...I even had x-rays done...they came back fine....but then the dr. finally suggested physical therapy for her. So she started that in April and since then, she has improved greatly....you just have to work with them alot, and teach them how to roll over, or sit up...or whatever they need to do.
So I would say that he is normal...he is just taking a while like my daughter did.
My daughter just turned 1 on the 4th of this month, and she is just now getting to where she is pulling up on things to stand.
So I wouldn't really worry much...as long as the dr. says everything is fine.
I hope he starts doing things soon though! :o)

I would be persistent with his mother to get him to a doctor. That is very far behind. He should have been rolling over at about 5 1/2 months. By 7 months he should also be able to grasp things like a rattle, and sitting with support.

Yes, babies do develop at different rates so you really can't compare. But there may be a problem, talk to your family doctor and they should be able to tell you a little more about what he should doing. If your sister has been taking him to his check ups she should know if there are some developmental delays. If there is a problem maybe she knows and does not want to share with you because she is in denial. Or it could be nothing, either way do not push the issue with her, just talk to your doctor.

ok properly each toddler is diverse- your newphew appears like an quite large toddler 23 lbs!! perchance it really is why he isn't any longer transferring that a lot! As for crawling frequently little ones dont commence until eventually eventually 8/9 mos. And solids arent stated until eventually 6 mos-yet he could be began on solids already. As for tooth again it varies from toddler to toddler. yet when he's 23 lbs -the scale of a 12 mos previous then it really is totally probable he can not sit down up on his personal with the aid of his weight... up to now the in reality challenge is his weight.. some thing else he's okay...I wouldnt be too worried. My daughter didnt move slowly until eventually eventually round 9 mos and walked round 16 mos and he or she is totally wholesome!

I have 6 kids and each of them developed at different speeds. I have one that seemed to go slow who is now 13 yrs old and plays the viola and a 2 yr old who knows Spanish and can count to 30. It just depends on the baby and the babies environment. If after the next doctor visit maybe you should see about going with her to ask questions.

Take him to an Occupational Therapist for an assessment. Some Occupational Therapists specialize in child development, and your local school district should have referral sources for screening developmental delays. If he is truly developmentally delayed he may be entitled to receive therapy services payed by the state or school district even if he is under school age.

Is he laughing, grabing objects, holding his head up or making any milestones?

I have a friend whose baby is 6 months old and hasn't rolled over or attempted to either. Much less sitting up. But, her doctor also told her not to worry...that babies develop on their own at their own pace.

If one doctor says no, seek a second opinion. There may be a chemical inbalancement or a neurological problem that another doctor may find out. If several doctors agree there is nothing wrong, then he may just be wanting to surprise everyone and sprout one day.
