Hi, I just moved to a home and looked into Direct TV to try saving a little money. I decided against it because my land is a semi wooded lot (some trees about 15 on a half acre lot). I found out that the trees would definitely cause a problem with the satellite communicating with the signal from space and that I would have poor reception.

I was willing to try it for a slightly lower price but found out that besides the tree problem, Direct TV has a lot of packages which seem very confusing.

In the meantime, I chose Comcast Cable, with Internet and Digital Phone Line. There is nothing out there that can beat Cable Internet (DSL is a joke and Satellite Internet is the slowest of all 3 providers).

Since I opted for the phone through Comcast along with the Cable and Internet, I get a discounted rate for one whole year. I got three services coming in on one bill (I love that, so much easier)

And don't be afraid of getting digital phone line from your cable provider, here are some facts about my phone service:
1) I can call 911 (don't think of this setup as being anything like Vonage)
2) If the electric goes out, guess what? You still have your phone for at least 8 hours while the electric is out, because the modem has a built in 8 hour UPS backup.
3) Clarity is perfect! Zero complaints and there are no delays when making or receiving calls.
4)Your phone line will be built in to your internet modem, so if you want more than one phone in your house just use one of those easy to find, buy, setup multi handset phones. They are EXCELLENT!

Anyway since your original question was Satellite or Cable. I'll ask you this, would you prefer to save a few dollars a month on a Satellite System with slower TV Channel Changing? or Would you rather save on a combination of TV, Internet, and Phone through your cable provider?

The obvious answer was Cable for me.

Cable

Depends on where you live and what channels you want to watch. I just switched my parents to Direct TV because it was $10.00 less a month and they got 100 channels more and the funny thing is my Mom actually had been asking Cable One to carry 3 or them on regular cable they would only do it on Digital for $40.00 more a month. And she will get her local channels as well.

Do do your research. List channels you really want and see which one carries them for less. It most likely will be Direct TV or Dish TV. Cable really is not that flexible in what they will offer you unless you upgrade to their highest package.

P.S. only had Direct TV go out once due to weather in the 4 years I've had it (snow storm dumped 12 inches and was only out for about 1 hour); but when I had cable for just 18 months went out almost every month and once was for 2 days.

I've had both Direct TV and Comcast Cable. I love Direct TV, more channels and it cost the same as regular cable

i have had both.(at the moment cable) i have got here across a lot less interruptions with cable. in case you stay in a snow course state, the elements absolutely outcomes your reception. somewhat ice or snow or perchance a competent rain, "fohgedddaboudit"! the in reality element I hate about cable is that the on-call for service takes perpetually to modify reflects at the same time as finding out on a movie, and the individuals they have speaking at the same time as i'm attempting to make your thoughts up on a movie which takes perpetually because the exhibit ameliorations are so slow, I also locate stressful. yet I do love the health channels on on-call for, you may p.c.. out your workout undemanding. Cable has the rewind or pause like Tvo which i love. except the above 2, i'd take cable. no longer so intense priced right here. My husband replaced into in a position to get a competent deal. You gotta understand a thanks to banter with the Cust serv. reps. they choose your agency.

I'm very happy with my Dishnetwork. I did have cable TV but got rid of it because it was so unreliable. A drop of rain or a crack of lightning in the distance would knock the cable out! So far, Dish has only gone out when it rains really hard. Don't know anything about DirecTV other than it's more expensive than Dish is.
