Way before your time. I seen a license from 1912. It was paper and when you got a ticket or stopped for a violation the officer would right it on the back of your license.

I dont know what year. But my grandfather got his drivers lic. at a drug store and it said it was good for a life time. My grandfather was born in 1904. he lived in oregon.

i was told in the late 30,s but not real sure,i would think it was more like in the late 20,s,,good ? though,id like to know the answer to that one myself.
