OMG...I feel SO bad for you. Both my kids has horrible gas AND colic on top of it.

What kind of formula are you feeding her? It could be that she has an allergy to milk protein and should be switched to a soy formula or a hypoallergenic one. Before you do this, however, consult her doctor.

Also, there are several bottles on the market that are proven to reduce gas in infants. Playtex VentAire (what I used) and Dr. Brown's are supposed to be great.

You could also try Infant Mylicon gas drops, or Gripe Water (found at a healthfoods store). I can say from experience, however, that the Gripe Water did nothing for my kids. It's all natural/herbal, and contains baking soda, fennel, etc. The baking soda will give you one whollop of a burp, but it never made much difference to my kids.

I would recommend Infants' Mylicon. It was recommended by my son's pediatrician and it is amazing. It's specifically for gas relief in infants and it is completely safe because the body doesn't absorb it. It is so safe you can use it at every feeding. I didn't use it every time, just 2-3 times a day and it really worked. If you want ask your pediatrician about it. You may also want to ask your ped. if it could be your baby's formula. That's what turned out to be my son's problem so they switched to soy and he hasn't had any problems since. My son is only 3 mths old so I just recently went through this. Hope this helps!

How old is your baby?
How long has she been doing this?
What kind of bottles are you using?

It coul be she's allergic to her formula. I would call her ped right away. Because with baby allergies these things only get worse.

As for gas - I've found doing the bicycle helps.
Lay her on her tummy over your knees and pat her back/butt.
Or, put your hand firmly on her belly and bend her over your hand and with your other hand pat her on her back.

The way to get rid of the gas is not by patting her back but by the flatening of her belly. (Dr. Sears, The Baby Book)

Bottles to try:
1. Dr. Browns - on the expensive side and have extra parts to wash. But, they really do work for gas. If you watch you can see the parts expelling the gas ... pretty cool.
2. Playtex nursers - the kind with the bags. These are good because they callapse like the breast.

BTW, I asked my ped about giving my baby water for constipation. And, he said that at two months his kidneys are not developed enough to handle water. So, before giving water check with your ped.

hold her upside down with your palm under her rib cage and your fingers streched out - baby is over your legs so she won't fall - and gently push - you should be able to feel the gas and then its release- don't know what to say about the hiccups but they will go away (mine had them from the day she was born until she was off the bottle)- if the gas does not go away call dr. to make sure she does not have collic and she may advise you on the proper dosage of milicon- my baby was so gassy once I literally handed her to a co-worker and said "help" she proceeded to burp her as I advised you above -Good luck - and it'll get easier- p.s. most people love to hold newborns especailly those of us lucky enough to be mothers/fathers so don't be afraid to ask someone to show you what worked for their children : )

At the drug store you could pick some otc gas relief for infants. Also you might want to consider switching bottles. Ones with the curved necks are supposed help with gas. They allow less air to get through. Maybe switch formula too.

Use bagged bottles and squeeze all the air out. For immediate relief, use the gas drops from Walgreens\Meijers or any pharmacy should have them. Drops will take about 30 mins, but we had the same problem and just kept them on-hand.

I breastfed, and my baby was still quite gassy. I would say mylecon drops are good things. And also soft clockwise massage on the abdomen for several seconds, then gently 'bicycle' her legs, then rub abdomen again. Just to work the air down and out. Good luck.

the holes in the nipples may be too big- they have different sizes- i think you should try classic- i think they are smaller than the fast/easy flow nipples. try massaging the tummy from one side to the other -that should help some. if your baby tend to have constipation, try about a half of teaspoon of clear/light karo syrup in with 4 oz. of milk every other bottle.

You can use the smithcone drops or how ever its spelled, but I recomend that you just burp her every few minutes...And if that doesn't work, she might not like the iron baised formula...My daughters couldn't take it either and both my girls used soy formula, which will NOT hurt them whatsoever...
Yet my son's took regular formula just fine...was weird...but if all else fails try the soy formula...

Use bag bottles, or try Mylican drops. The drops aren't absorbed into the body, so they're not harmful, they just pop the bubbles.
