If you are Al Gore III, Natalie Portman, or one of Queen Noor's sons (real alums), then yes, legacies as well as fame will get you in. If your parents went there but you have poor grades and test scores, it won't count for much. Legacies can be the tiebreaker in certain cases, but no one with a legacy is a shoo-in. Don't use it as a crutch if you are one.
Edit: You'll probably get in, provided you've done stuff with extracurricular activities on a meaningful level.

20,987 applied, 2,095 admitted, 1,635 enrolled. I don't think it really depends on "being a legacy"
Costs (2005 - 06)

* Comprehensive fee: $41,675 includes full-time tuition ($28,752), mandatory fees ($3345), and room and board ($9578)
* Room and board: college room only: $5148
* Payment plans: tuition prepayment, installment
You can get into Harvard one out of two ways: Being very smart with high grades and test scores and also being active in school activities or just being really wealthy and donating money )around 2 millon dollars) to get into Harvard.

I think it's practically required since so few are admitted but it would help a lot more if your parent donated money and had a building in their name.
