Don't get a job!!! Start a business! there are lots of enterprises you can start on little or no money and build into something worthwhile.

Buy books in thrift stores and sell them on Amazon
Start a service that makes use of your talents
Start a web design company. You find the clients and have others do the work!
There are lots of things you can do if you just think about it.

You can get a job really at any fast food place, yes i know it sounds gross but i can teach you many things for uture careers like work ethics and how to do things efficiently and in a timely manner. I am pretty sure you could also work in a department store such as Target. Good luck!

Volunteer - everyone wants you to work for them when your'e working for free, and you'll get experience too.
Before looking for a specific job make sure you know your strengths, and what you'll need to learn:
I worked as a web designer because I had experience fooling around with the necessary software - perhaps you have a hobby that people are willing to pay for?

P.S.
Telemarketing and call-centres haven't been mentioned yet.

1 out of 8 americans got their start in McDonalds. It's hard on the ego, I know. You har what sounds like a bunch of BS about "learning character" and such, but that's becuase that's how we learned about responsibility and character.

If you can't handle the fast food thing, your other options are Lifeguarding, Mowing Lawns or other grunt work for a landscaper, and babysitting.

Pretty much any job involving food service. Can suck, but you learn a lot about responsablity and stuff, plus depending on who you work with it can pretty fun. Some call centers hire at 16 too, and they pay way better. good luck!
