Anything from gym clothes to clown suits depending on what you have to do there.

As for the average person who is just going there to shop, it's usually jeans and a t-shirt and comfy footwear. Keeping it light so that the heat doesn't get in the way of ur enjoyment.

In Orchard Road, the Shopping belt, you may find those chinese lady with high hair-do and expensive clothing. They are from Indonesian.
You may also find people in sports gear or in smart casual, usually those are either students or people out for meal or serious shopping.
Some do put on office wear, those are working class working in office near by.
Some are really hot (gals), those are parties goers. Mainly in the evening and weekends.

In the City, Raffles place, same combination, but more on the office wear, and not much on the hot stuff. In the weekend and evening, the Raffles place is like ghost town.

Singapore is pretty liberal in terms of dress code as oppose to other countries like Arab Saudi and/ or any Islamic nations where women are required to dress appropriately.
Basically, there's nothing to worry about :) Just be sure you have a good pair of walking shoes, light, cotton, clothing & plenty of water - there's much walking to do in Singapore!

Singapore is one of the most diverse, clean, and modern country/cities in the world. So you can wear whatever you are used to and you will fit in. I was there last month for two weeks. It is close to the equator so it is hot and muggy.

Anything they like... if you took a survey casual would probably be the most common. Jeans and t-shirt for the guys and something similarly casual for the girls.

What you won't find much of are people in coats, suits etc. It averages 32-35 degrees celcius in the day here and HIGH humidity.

most people wear clothes?

hha.. well mostly cotton or linen, something breathable... t-shirts, tank tops, sleeveless tees, singlets etc..
cotton pants, jeans, 3/4 pants, berms, shorts..
you could also wear the national costumes like sari, punjabi suit, kebayas, and no one will bat an eyelid..

slippers, shoes etc...

just don't expect people to walk around in bikini tops downtown.. and guys also don't usually take off their tops (unlike western countries, like Australia...

It's hot. They wear clothes that people in hot countries would wear. You do the math.

Clothes. Nothing that'd different than what you wear. Unless you go around in underwear all day.
