If you have a good tattoo artist, they should have given you aftercare instructions. My tattoo artist told me to only use Vaseline Intensive Care advanced healing fragrance free lotion several times daily. He advised me that antibiotic ointments and A & D can mess up the ink. Each tattooer has their preference, so I would double check with your tattoo artist to be sure.

use only A & D Ointment other salves and ointment might have a chemical in it that will draw out the inks or over flood the ink causing it to bleed into other areas ruining it. Stick with the A & D ointment it is the best and actually the cheapest option.

I have a tattoo myself, though mine's on my shoulder. I was told to use A&D ointment to keep it from drying out and to keep it from getting infected. However, since you asked about a foot tattoo, I'm not sure if that would work, considering that it'd be on your foot, covered by a sock, inside a shoe...Hmm...I'd suggest you ask the tattoo artist what they recomend for that one. Hope that helps some.
