Where is the missing third party?

Environmentally friendly. Giant tax incentives for making cars more efficient.

Military must be huge, war is a last resort.

Axe missions to Mars and dump the money into alternative fuels.

Give teachers bonuses based on how much their students improve.

Burn the flag if you want, it is the utlimate example of free speech.

Reinstate hard labor camps and make criminals do free public labor.

Let gays get married if they want. Gay monogomy isn't hurting anyone and is hardly a special right.

Assist Mexico's economy to make it a place people want to stay. For those who are here, welcome, you have 2 years to learn English.

Make abortion legal through the first month. Period. If you're having sex, you should be checking if you're pregnant. If you can't afford an abortion in that amount of time, don't have sex.

3 term limits for congress, 2 for senate.

Congressional salaries based on budget cuts!!!!

Pretty much nobody.

The problem with running on a "centrist" platform is that it is arbitrary. Some people are centrist in one area, while others are centrist in others. For this reason, you can never have a "centrist" third party.

Some policies above would ensure that Republicans won't vote for your theoretical candidate (gay marriage, assisting Mexican economy), some would ensure no Democrats vote for it (treatment of criminals, abortion), so you'd end up with only a handful of people who vote purely on candidate likability without serious regard for the issues.

I'm a registered Republican who voted for John Kerry. I was hoping to get a Democrat in the White House and keep the GOP in control of the House and Senate, but I think it's even more fascinating that GWB has alienated about a quarter of his own party. That's no small feat. But what it will take for a viable third party is for the voting public to get sick and tired of politics as usual. If the re-election rates in the House and Senate are any indication, it won't happen anytime soon even though voters say they've had enough. They really haven't had enough, they just have short attention spans. Unfortunately.

And to the person who responded about protecting the flag, I'd like to know, if you can't protest the government, then what right to protest do you really have? I'd much rather have a First Amendment that allows even stupid expressions of protest (like flag-burning) than to have government brownshirts come knocking on the door for not seeing eye-to-eye with the current administration--no matter which administration is in the White House. Read up on Nazi Germany and you'll see why the right to protest and the right of free speech are among the most precious rights we have in the U.S. And if you can't handle a little anti-American protest, then you might as well use the First Amendment for toilet paper, because you obviously don't support what it stands for.

I will only vote a straight line Demo ticket from now on. I used to worry about learning who a candidate was and what he/she stood for, but that's not important anymore.

The only reason I would not vote for someone with these ideas is you don't burn the USA Flag. To many men and women have died for this flag and to burn it is saying they died for nothing. There are other ways' to show your freedom of speach.

I would vote for this person but minus the homosexual marriage part. The rest of it is great stuff. But it most likely wont happen anytime soon.
