I am going out of town with my husband for two weeks. He is taking a class and I will be stuck in a hotel by myself for most of the time. I like fiction novels. I don't like anything that has to do with things that are not real such as: gost, aliens, or science fiction. Things like Harry Potter and Star Wars are not my thing. However I do like mysterys, muder, something that will keep my interst.

Alice Sebold's book "The Lovely Bones" is an interesting twist on the usual mystery.
Carol O'Connell's "Judas Child" really held my interest.
I just re-read Carl Hiaasen's "StripTease" and laughed my butt off all over again... it's a mystery in a Florida setting with plenty of droll humor thrown in.
Ace Atkins is a new writer to me but I really thought "Dark End of the Street "was a great read.
Also "Mary, Mary" by James Patterson.
"Iron Orchid" by Stuart Woods.
Don't forget "The DaVinci Code"... a testy subject that is very well written.
If you have never read Truman Capote's "In Cold Blood" ...it is my favorite book and is simply a spell-binding tale told by a master craftsman. It is the first example of the non-fiction novel and Capote did a bang-up job of creating both mystery and thrilling tension.

Obviously there are the classics: Jane Eyre, anything by Jane Austin (Pride and Prejudice, Mansfield Park). I love travel writing so Bill Bryson is quite good (In a Sunburnt Country is about Australia, and Notes from a Small Island is about England, and there are others), and I also enjoy Bill Holmes who is a very talented Minnesota author (I would recommend The Heart Can Be Filled Anywhere), another great Minnesota book is Peace Like a River, which has murder, faith, small town Americana and is really well written.

I have started reading Terri McMillans books. She wrote Waiting to Exhale, and How Stella Got Her Groove back. I haven't read Waiting to Exhale yet, but I've been reading them like they're going out of style! I've read her Disappearing Acts, How Stella Got Her Groove Back and A Day Late and A Dollar Short. I am currently reading The Interupption of Everything! Then I will be reading Waiting to Exhale, that was originally the first book I purchased, but since I saw the movie first, the first chapter was soo much like the movie, that I wanted to read the other books first, but I would recommend any of her books. I also like this new book, I dont remember the author but it's called "The Secret Lives of Fortunate Wives". Or a Jane Green novel called "The Other Woman". Just a few suggestions! :) Hope I was some help to you!

Oh, my! Yes. Depending on the genre of mystery that you prefer, anything by the following authors: Diane Mott Davidson, Janet Evanovich, Susan Conant, Joan Hess, Lou Jane Temple, Lilian Jackson Braun, Jennifer Crusie, Rett MacPherson, Susan Whittig Albert, Leslie Meier, Joanne Fluke, Kinky Friedman (he is now running for governor of Texas; the books are very entertaining, but just a bit on the raunchy side); these are all light reading. Jonathan Kellerman and Karen Kijewski also both write excellent thriller/mysteries, but they are darker in nature. I also like Jean Auel's Earth's Children series, Helen Hooven Santmyer's "And Ladies of the Club", Daphne DuMauier's "Rebecca"; "Gone With the Wind" and the sequel, "Scarlett", written by Alexandra Ripley; and I have recently discovered an author by the name of Max Brand, his latest novel is "Company". If you have ever been employed by a large corporation whose policies made no sense at all, you will love this one. Need more? Click on my avatar and email me - happy reading!

For something like this you want easy reads that don't make you feel stupid. I'd go with James Patterson books. They are easy-to-read and have great plot twists.

I recently read honeymoon, Lifeguard, The Lake House and Mary, Mary. There's also a new one out something with Jury. You can't really miss with him.
He has a women's murder club series...***I RECOMMEND THIS BIG TIME.

If you are looking for more intellectual read John Grisham's The Broker.
If still no good try a romance/murder fiction. Sandra Brown and Norah Roberts are great authors for that. I'd suggest Chill Factor or Midnight Bayou.

Have fun reading!

Steve Kluger - Last Days of Summer, which is literally the best book I've ever read.

Also, Size Twelve is Not Fat by Meg Cabot (it's a murder mystery) and An Acquaintance with Darkness by Ann Rinaldi.

2 interesting books. While they aren't mysteries they keep your attention.

Interesting incident about the dog in the night.
- a story about an autistic boy who is trying to solve a "crime". super fast read. it was popular a few years back

The red tent
- it follows the story of rachel who is in the old testament. It is all fictional but very good and will surprise you with how you might get in to another genre

My personal fav is The Coldest Winter Ever By: Sister Souljah. I think this would be a great book for you. It's a detailed oriented story that flows easily. It is a 300+ book that I finished in two days because I couldn't put it down.
