i am planning on street/strip setup.

i would go with the 455 if you can afford it.


and for the troll who said go with the 442, the 442 wasnt an engine, it was a name abbreviation.
in 1964 it meant 4 speed, 4 barrel, dual exhaust.
1965 and after it meant 400 cubic inches, 4 barrel, and dual exhaust.

NO 455 parts are high and hard to find. Go with your 350. If you can....get the Y block. It's older and stronger. Came out with higher compression pistons. You will have to replace a few of the rocker bridges down the road but the replacements are forged not cast and they wont break again...they only run about 12 bucks. If your 70 has the original motor, it should be the Y block. The R block didn't start until around 75. 425 had lower end troubles.

Yes I built a streetable 455 with C cast heads that runs High 7's in the 1/8. with a Idle that will pass for darn near stock.

A 425 is a good choice also. If your gonna leave this engine pretty well stock a 403 Olds is easy to find and has good power over the 350.

The blocks are essentially the same so go with the 455 for power. pay close attention to the timing chain cover because that also holds the oil pump.

I'm justa girl, but i own a cherry 1970 Olds 442.I know that under the hood it sayz 455 rocket and it RAWKS!

455 engines are good, but nothing is more reliable than a 442. Plus, I'm sure you'll find the 442 has all the power you'll need.

NO!!! You have a classic that is worth more original with matching # on the VIN and engine than if you swap it out. But for fun DO IT. Course you'll have to swap tranny.Springs and rr springs and rr end to accomadate the extra power
