It seems the question assumes that someone is going to buy this person a car. If so, the Mazda3 is a great choice. It offers a ton of room inside, lots of standard features like tilt and telescopic steering, CD, folding rear seat, 15" wheels etc. More importantly from a safety point of view, did you realize the Mazda3 is based on the same platform as the new Volvo s40? 40% of the parts of a Mazda3 are the SAME as the Volvo! It has an amazing body structure with things like real steel bumpers under the plastic covers.

Mazda uses a "Tripple H" body structure that results in a very ridigid and safe passenger compartment.

Here is just one example of the innovative thinking gone into the design of the Mazda3: Since the Volvo has a awd option, there is a "tunnel" going to the rear where they put the drive shaft. Mazda has used this to tuck the exhaust out of the way so it has a flat floor underneath so there is nothing to drag when going through snow etc.

The Mazda3's handling characteristics exceed those of the BMW 3 series and offers far more room inside than the Corolla or Civic.

One test drive and you will be convinced! This is an amazing car.

don't do it. There's nothing wrong with the Mazda, however, this is a 16 year old we're talking about here. I built and paid for my first car, and still beat on it. If I had gotten one brand new? I'd have probably broken it up years ago. Kids need time to learn how to drive responsibly. Also, it'll send an impressionthrough their school of "daddy's little girl" or something like that...to the effect of your child is spoiled. There's more to it than just a car.

Right now I drive a 99 Nissan Altima. It's not the sexiest car in the world, but when it's clean, it looks great. It's getting 30mpg, is one of the most reliable cars on the road according to Consumer Reports (and me) and is safe. I got mine with very low mileage for under $12k.

Maybe it's a better option then a brand new car, payments and full coverage insurance.

Yeah, a new car is too nice for a new driver. Start her out with a used car. Maybe a Ford Focus ZX3. It has depreciated plenty and quickly (less than $10k for a '02-'03). Shouldn't have too much problems, at least nothing major. Nice car that a kid might think that looks cool. I believe focus and mazda 3 are based on the same platform.

Civic's are nice, but they hold their value so well that a used (couple years) is close to a new one.

you're by no potential going to be somebody's first decision interior the fu ck stakes the two, mate. you will desire to strengthen up. i'm particular a brilliant style of center elderly adult adult males discover youthful girls perfect. definite, sixteen-18 365 days olds probably have the 'extra useful' bodies on your unusual male minds. yet women individuals get extra perfect with age - mentally and bodily. If something, women individuals are bodily extra useful of their 20s and 30s than of their young human beings. At sixteen, they nevertheless have youngster's bodies. i think of it rather is super to a definite quantity in case you finally end up looking FLEETINGLY at a youthful woman. yet once you actual attempt as much as now one or you're oggling over them, then you rather're an extremely unhappy previous guy certainly. i do no longer think of you recognize what a real woman is, to be truthful!

If the sixteen year old has a job, is able to pay for the car and its insurance, maintenance and gas by him/herself, I think it is a wonderful idea. If the sixteen year old expects the parents to provide all of that, I think the sixteen year old needs a reality check.

I think I would go for a used car for her first car. It will likely take it's share of"bumps and bruises." A "starter" car will give her a chance to learn responsibility for maintenance, insurance, gas etc...without the higher costs of insurance for a brand new vehicle. My son just got a new Mazda 3i last week. I've been in it twice. It is very comfortable, drives smoothly, good on gas, and the engine has LOTS of pep, etc...This is his 2nd car.(he's 21) We gave him his first one. It was 10yrs. old and took it's share of abuse. This one he took the time to research, got insurance quotes, and his own payments. I'm hoping he will have it a long time.

Good choice, but she won't respect it. Get a mazda protege instead. The 1999 and up look pretty similar to the 3. They are really cheap too. Good luck!

nicer car than any of mine! l think a kid shouldn't get a new car as a first car. Let them learn to appreciate the value of the car. Buy a beater, insure it, maintain it, baby it, respect it. Let them get a new car when they can afford to buy it on their own.

I think it's great, as long as they make the payments and insurance-responsibility is the greatest gift a teenager can have.
