Disowning a child means that you no longer say the child is yours, you cut the child out of your will, and you simply refuse to have anything to do with the child.
There isn't a legal, court-recognized way of disowning a 26 year old. Legal disowning is usually started by the child, and is called 'getting emancipated'.
What you CAN do is tell the 26 year old to move out, and not bother you again.

Disowning a child is not a legal action per se. The term, more or less, describes your feelings and actions toward your child. I don't know the situation between you and your daughter, but if you severe all parental connections with you daughter, then one may say that you have "disowned" her. If it is her who is living with you, and you are supporting her, it would be hard to say that you are "disowning" her while you allow her to live with you..

Disowning just means that you stop considering the kid yours. As in throwing them out and not giving them an inheritance. You can do it to anyone at any age (thought the government might not look very kindly on you doing it to someone under 18). Good luck with that.

why would you want to disown your daughter anyways? disowning means severing ties with your child and not considering her family anymore. is that what you want? if you just want to kick her out of the house, tell her that she needs to move out and start on her own. afterall, she's 26 years old. "disowning" has too much gravity to it.

Surely you are not seriously considering disowning your daughter, are you??? I don't feel any parent should disown there child no matter what the circumstances are.

I dont think you mean disown her unless she has done something unforgiveable if shes just mooching off of you and has no job or future to look forward to then you need to set her down and tell her that she is plenty old enough to support herself and its time to cut the apron strings, tell her that you love her but your gonna have to get ready for retirement from you job and from being a supporter.Tell her its time for you to enjoy your freedom
once again and for her to begin her responsibility as a grown up
and staying here isnt part of your plans

the only time i can see doing something so extreme it would have to be that this child has brought me to financial ruin on purpose such as theft or this child has attempted to take my life of someone elses life and has no regard for human life. When a child is an adult then parent and child have options and the relationship is now by choice and not obligation. the parent has done the duty of raising the child go or bad but the quality of relationship is up to them.

Why don't you just tell her to get out of your house and start supporting herself? Would you actually want absolutely nothing to do with your daughter ever again? I think you would regret it in the future. She does need to start her own life though- tell her to stop being a bum and get out there into the world!
