Flute - but then I've majored in university in performance and am now a professional flute teacher & performer.

To mister_m_dude - flute is actually one of the easiest instruments to become semi-proficient at. Getting used to having no resistence and creating your own is only hard if you are used to resistence in the first place. Don't answer questions if you have no clue what you are talking about.

flutes seem to be more feminine than clarinets. But, I chose the clarinet, 'cos I didn't think I could hold my arms up like that for a long time. Flutes are a little easier to learn the mouth positioning though..

I played both, but I played flute for a much longer period of time. I love everything about the flute. I think it has the best sound.

You also get to play lead melody much more often with flute than you do with clarinet.

definitely the flute! It's probably because I play it, but I think it sounds more melodious than the clarinet.

clarinet!!!!!
Unless you're good at breaking things. if you are, then go with the flute. I'm a clarinet player, and i've broken tons of reeds...
I think you'll have fun with either!

FLUTE

After hearing what sounds Jethro Tull has made come out of a fulte I have to pick that but as no one has really ROCKED with a clarinet yet that could be a challenge...uncharted territory. Don't get me wrong I love the classical stuff too but am really impressed with versatility.
