If you are owned by the Holy Spirit of Christ, then yes. You have the greatest power of all. However, if you are possessed by Satan or one of his fallen angels, then no. You are not empowered, you are in BONDAGE!

If the latter is the case, you need to call on Christ, orally and loud. Rebuking that damned spirit in the name of Christ. You are not empowered you are in BONDAGE!

These fallen spirits may make you feel empowered. They may allow you to use some of their powers, even. They may even promise you great things. Nonetheless, they are only after your soul. They are trying to "win you over" so that when you die they can claim you for all eternity.

This is the sad destiny for all warlocks, wicans, witches, etc...

Are you talking more third-world ritualized possession?

(A negative example shows up in Jackson's remake of "King Kong." Usually things look a little more benign... but the ritualized possession still involves permitting oneself to fall into a trance state and give up control to the desired "spirit.")

In a culture like ours, no, probably not. In a third-world society, where being able to commune with spirits and earn their good graces is important, the woman shaman does gain social power. People both respect and fear her.

Similarly, our society will never understand something like "voodoo," which seems completely non-sensical to us -- but in those countries, the suggestion that you have been cursed is enough for you to will yourself to die. Again, people -- women shamen included -- have unexpected power.

I would just point out that both men and women are involved in possession rituals, so it's really a non-gender-specific form of power gain.

If you're talking "American" possession (i.e., unwilling loss of body control to a malevolent spirit), these things can be empowering only because one feels "special" spiritually to have such a problem, and one also gets a lot of attention for having this condition.
