There are lots of choices in a school band - flute, clarinet, saxophone (alto, tenor & in some baritone), french horn, trumpet, trombone, tuba, drums, oboe, bassoon. I'm a flute player, so I'm partial to that - but I've always wanted to learn to play oboe or bassoon - they sound soo cool! I don't like clarinet, personally I found it very easy to play - quite boring. Same with sax, no challenge for me. Trumpet is alright, trombone is soo much fun to play, as is tuba - you'd get to play the root bear song! French horn is beautiful, but very challenging. Drums - blech, they are alright, but not my style.
And that's just it - you need to find YOUR style, not mine or anyone else's. Try each instrument, listen and feel what they are like. You'll find the one for you. Have fun!

You should listen to each one and decide which one you like the sound of. No instrument is really easier than the other because all have difficulties. If you think you would ever consider a profession in music know that flute is the most competitive instrument right now, with clarinet and trumpet being close.

Drumline is considered the "cool kids" but honestly I prefer a wind insturment. My main insturment is flute, though I have also played clarinet, saxaphone, and trumpet. Flute sounds the best and is a challenge to play, but a lot of fun if you do it right.

I didn't play in the school band, but I had to pick an instrument for music class and I chose the alto sax. It was a big mistake because I was really bad at it. In retrospect, I should have chosen guitar.

I would say drums because that is what i play and it is fairly easy, it will just get harder as you advance into the high school or jr. high classes. It mainly lies on how well u can read notes and if you want to have to push a lot of valves (for the mouth instruments).

flute or drums.
I play the flute myself and I just love its sound and the way it carries out melodies.
The drums(percussion) are very important in a band because they basically lead the rhythm and beats in the whole band. And I just love the way it sounds.

My recommendation, is find something that's the most pleasing to your ear. Also, if you're really into music, find something outside of the school band you'd like to play, such as the piano, guitar, blah blah blah. At least then, if you get sick of one you can fall back on the other.

START LISTENING TO CLASSICAL AND JAZZ MUSIC ANYWHERE YOU CAN you then begin to gain knowledge of what one is meant to sound like Artie Shaw was once a best Jazz clarinetist...seem for classical cd's that say" symphony or whater for CLARINET. Mozart for illustration wrote plenty of stuff for clarinet. YOU HAVE TO LISTEN A LOT so your computerbrain will get the "proper sound"burned into it

Well, I would say the French Horn, but that is just because i play one. What you should pick depends on where your talents lie.
