Chevy, parts are more readily available and usually a little less expensive.

I don't understand why everyone thinks that olds and chevy are the same. Olds are made heavier but stronger. If you've got the cash to build it, go olds. For cheap parts, go chevy. For a strong engine, go with a Pontiac 400. It's the same as the 350 block. Chevy had 2 different ones. The 400 big block and the 400 small block. There are many options. Chevy stroker is quick and easy. I have no personal preference, just depends on your resources and what you have planned.

68-71 Oldsmobile had more Nickel in their blocks, designed to handle more tourque. Rev'd a lot lower aswell so the engine wouldn't ware as much as a higher reving Chev. Of all the 350's, Oldsmobile is said to have the highest power potential. Mondello said the Old's "C heads" are the best flowing big block heads, which will also fit on the olds 350. If you ask me, Oldsmobiles are better engines, but Chev's are more common and easier to get aftermarket parts for, parts are also a lot cheaper. If you want a better like-stock engine an Olds is the way to go, but if you are looking for aftermarket parts go with a chev because it will be a lot cheaper.

Chevy...
GM engines are similar but not the same. Chevy engines are more readily available. Better aftermarket, too.

Chevy small block, all the way. More readily available aftermarket performance parts, most small block parts will swap from engine to engine, with little, or no modification.

while it is true they are not the same they are both gm products. which one to choose you ask? the chevy is a superior design, always was, always will be. stick with the chevy. the 455 olds is hard to come by and i mean the 1968 to 1971 years. all other years are boat anchors after 1971.
