ok bush defenders...he cut the budget that would pay to upkeep and fix the levies. And since when does the president have no authority in a national disastor? I suppose he shouldnt have done anything during 911 either, oh wait...he didnt do anything except read a book to little kids for a PR stunt. But anyway, of course it wasnt his fault. I mean the city of new orleans should have been able to pay for the extremly expensive repairs and maintenace needed to protect millions of U.S. citizens without any help from the feds. I guess we should send nevada and las vegas the bill for the hoover damn now. get your heads out of your bums, take responsibility for your misguided republican vote, and accept morality and rational thought into your lives.

Hold on now! Did President Bush bring the Hurricane? Don't we have a State and Federal Government? Look at the way the State handled their evacuation preparedness. What was Our Commander in Chief suppose to do? A rain dance?

WE ALL KNEW ABOUT IT BEFORE IT HAPPENED!!!! I live in Maryland, we watched the thing on the news and the weather Chanel for some time before it ever came close to the United States. What did you want him to do? Go and hold up the damn dikes? Where were the Governor of Louisiana, where was Mayor Nagin? The levies and dikes in that area didn't just go bad in time for Katrina to hit, they have been in bad shape for many years. Do you think the state and local governments have any responsibility to protect their citizens????? If that area is hit again this year, is Mayor Nagin going to have another melt down?

EVERYONE KNEW ABOUT THE HURRICANE BEFORE IT HAPPENED!! DID YOU NOT SEE THE COVERAGE STARTING A WEEK BEFORE HAND?
And Ray Nagin knew about it also... so why didn't he make the call to send the buses for everyone?
Bush isn't to blame over this! People need to quit making him the target...
Do you think it was an accident that they built government housing in the lowest lying land? Smart, WORKING people built their houses on higher land!
It was an act of God... not a political stunt.

if bush knew about it can you not assume that the Governor of la did also and if the Governor knew isn't it logical to assume that the mayor knew about it. the US government should not infringe upon a states rights (isn't that what the liberals are always saying) so the better ? is why didn't the mayor use those 70 some odd school buses to get his people out instead of letting them get flooded? why didn't the government of la MAKE the people get out.

He "just sat there" because the governor of LA and Mayor Nagin would not relinquish authority to the federal government. His hands were tied. After it was too late, they called for help. Then everyone blamed Pres Bush.

Should he have flown around the world backwards to slow time down and allow for more evacuations?

A better question is: Why didn't those idiots get out of town in the 3 days leading up to the storm?

Because Bush has no power to do anything about anything. He can only do as he is told. If he was indeed a good man, and did something for the good of his people, he would probably be a dead man.

do a little more searching, theres a video of him at a meeting saying "we'll do everything in our power to keep you safe during the hurricane if it gets that bad", those werent his exact words, but it was close to it. then they had him on the news a month later saying "we didnt know it could have been that bad".

so, he's either lying, he wasnt paying attn to the meeting, or he's an idiot. or, of course, all of the above.
