it looks better if its the same as the trim color. it makes them stand out more (3D ish) otherwise they look like they are flat.

Really doesn't make much difference, but I have usually noticed that the sides of the trim are the same color as the front of the trim.

Trim color is traditional.

Who cares! If you like it than that's whats important. Usually I mess up when painting. I paint something and then don't like it. Well best solution try what you think is best and if you don't like it redo it. Don't worry about so much. NOT GOOD for your HEALTH

doesn't really matter,especially if it is your house you can paint it however you want!
